Scholarship for Poor & Meritorious MBBS and Postgraduate Medical Students

ORION introduced the Orion Pharma Medical Scholarship to support meritorious and underprivileged students pursuing medical education across Bangladesh for more than a decade. Through this program, several students from various reputed medical colleges receive scholarships that cover their entire courses of study, from the first year to internship. The initiative recognizes the dedication of aspiring doctors who have chosen a life of service to humanity.
 
To further enhance its impact, the ORION has expanded the scholarship programs to include postgraduate students enrolled in MS courses at renowned medical institutions. This expansion reflects ORION’s long-standing commitment to promoting medical education, nurturing future healthcare leaders, and ensuring that financial limitations never stand in the way of talent or ambition.

Drinking Water Distribution during Heat Wave

As the impacts of climate change intensify, Bangladesh has been experiencing more frequent and severe heat waves, posing significant risks to public health and daily livelihoods. During these periods of extreme heat waves that severely disrupted the daily lives of many, particularly those engaged in outdoor occupations such as rickshaw pullers, auto drivers, and pedestrians, ORION extended its support through a proactive demonstration of compassion and corporate responsibility.

Recognizing the immediate challenges faced by these vulnerable groups, ORION organized a targeted initiative to distribute drinking water, saline, snacks for providing immediate relief from the extreme weather conditions.

This initiative stands as a testament to ORION’s unwavering dedication to community welfare and its long-standing commitment to humanitarian values. Hajj & Umrah

As part of its commitment to employee well-being, ORION facilitates the opportunity to perform the Holy Hajj and Umrah each year, for a selected group of employees. The company undertakes all related formalities and bears the full cost of airfare, accommodation, and other associated expenses.

Winter Relief Distribution

Each year, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitment, ORION distributes winter related essentials like blankets, sweaters, shawls and timely support across cold prone areas of Bangladesh. Specially, during the heavy cold waves a dedicated team of ORION works for the vulnerable communities with compassion.

Through this annual effort, thousands of blankets, sweaters and other warm clothes are distributed to the area of most in need on an urgent basis. Sometimes, to fight with this severe coldness and cold related diseases, ORION provides food and medicines as per people’s need.

This ongoing program reflects ORION’s enduring philanthropic activities to society and standing beside the affected communities in need. Generally, ORION executes these CSR activities with coordination of local stakeholders to ensure efficient and impactful distribution as demand.

Iftar Distribution during Ramadan

Ramadan is regarded as a sacred month that nurtures compassion, generosity, and the spirit of giving. Guided by these values, ORION organizes Iftar distribution activities during the whole month of Ramadan to support the poor and slum dwellers. With the purpose of complete support to the underprivileged members of society, additional dinner packets are provided with the nutritious Iftar on a daily basis. This initiative reflects ORION’s ongoing commitment to supporting the less fortunate and spreading the joy of Ramadan among communities in need. The company remains dedicated to continuing this noble endeavor in the years ahead.

Additionally, to fight against hunger, ORION organizes fundamental water and food support to the deprived people in different forms during the whole year.

Relief for Flood-affected People

Bangladesh has been facing the devastating impact of severe flooding caused by unprecedented monsoon rainfall, river overflows and upstream water surges. The calamity has severely affected several regions of the country, leaving thousands of families displaced and in urgent need of assistance.

In response to these crises, ORION promptly initiates its flood relief operations as part of its ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitments. As devastating floods swept through the communities, ORION stood by humanity, sending its team to the hardest hit regions and using its vast distribution network to deliver relief and humanitarian-aid swiftly, turning empathy into action when it is needed most.

Demonstrating social responsibility, ORION’s relief efforts aim to alleviate immediate suffering and help restore normalcy for those impacted. The company remains steadfast in its commitment to continue its relief operations until daily life returns to normal in the affected areas.

Orion gets land for PPP Project by BTMC

Bangladesh Textile Mills Corporation (BTMC) officially handed over the project site to Orion Quaderia Textiles Ltd., a sister concern of ORION, on December 1, 2019. The site comprises 21.5 acres of land in Tongi, Gazipur. Earlier, ORION signed a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) agreement with BTMC on July 21, 2019, with the objective of contributing to the advancement of Bangladesh’s Ready-Made Garments (RMG) industry. On this occasion, Brigadier General Muhammad Kamruzzaman, Chairman of BTMC, formally handed over the land to Orion Quaderia Textiles Ltd. ORION plans to establish a state-of-the-art denim complex, along with washing facilities and extended RMG units, on the project site in Gazipur.

IDCOL to raise syndicated term loan facility for a 100 MW (AC) Solar Park of Energon Renewables (BD) Limited

Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL), a government-owned development financial institution involved in private sector energy and infrastructure financing in Bangladesh, has recently signed a mandate with Energon Renewables (BD) Limited, an emerging concern of ORION, to raise a syndicated term loan facility for the establishment of a 100 MW (AC) solar park at Bora Durgapur, Mongla, Bagerhat. The solar power plant will be developed on a Build-Own-Operate (BOO) basis under a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB). The project is expected to achieve commercial operation by August 2020. IDCOL, the largest energy and infrastructure financier in the country, has already financed power projects supplying more than 2,000 MW to the national grid. The organization also plans to invest an additional USD 1 billion by 2021 to support the development of priority infrastructure projects in Bangladesh.

Representatives of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) of Japan along with PPP Officials Visits Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover

ORION is the proud concessionaire of the Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover, the largest flyover in Bangladesh, with a total length of 11.80 kilometers. The flyover connects the capital with thirty (30) districts and operates 24 hours a day without interruption. This project stands as an excellent example of a successful Public-Private Partnership (PPP) initiative in Bangladesh. On Tuesday, September 24, 2019, representatives from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) of Japan, the Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh, the PPP Authority, and officials from Kajima Corporation, Japan, visited the Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover Project. The delegation also attended a luncheon hosted by ORION. The guests were warmly welcomed by the Vice President (Corporate Affairs), Vice President (Project), and Assistant Vice President (Toll Operations) of ORION. During the visit, the Assistant Vice President (Toll Operations) delivered a presentation highlighting the construction methodology, challenges faced during the construction phase, and the current operation and maintenance activities of the project. Following the presentation, a productive discussion took place. The delegation later visited Plaza-3 (Kutubkhali) to gain practical insight into the operational procedures of the toll system. The guests expressed their admiration for the project’s construction process and appreciated the operational and maintenance practices in place. They also acknowledged the project as a role model of a successful PPP initiative in Bangladesh.

ORION signs agreement with Bangladesh Textile Mills Corporation (BTMC) through PPP

Continuing its involvement in the Textile and Garments sector, ORION has taken another significant step by entering the denim industry. Bangladesh has emerged as a leading player in the global denim export market, capturing a significant market share and achieving double-digit growth. To contribute to this growing industry, ORION plans to establish a state-of-the-art denim complex, including washing and extended RMG units, on prepared land in Tongi, Gazipur, under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) initiative. Recently, Orion Quaderia Textiles Ltd. received a Letter of Award (LOA) from the Bangladesh Textile Mills Corporation (BTMC) for the project titled “Development of a Textile Mill at Tongi (Quaderia), Gazipur, Bangladesh through PPP.” To mark this milestone, Orion Quaderia Textiles Ltd. formally signed a PPP contract with BTMC on Sunday, July 21, 2019. The ceremony was hosted by ORION at Utshab Hall, Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden Hotel. The event was graced by Mr. Golam Dastagir Gazi (Bir Protik), MP, Honorable Minister of the Ministry of Textiles & Jute, as the Chief Guest. Mr. Mirza Azam, MP, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Textiles & Jute; Mr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad, Principal Coordinator (SDG Affairs) at the Prime Minister’s Office; and Mrs. Rina Parveen, Secretary (Interim Charge) of the Ministry of Textiles & Jute, attended as Special Guests. The agreement was signed by Mr. Salman Obaidul Karim, Managing Director of Orion Quaderia Textiles Ltd., and Brig. General Mohammad Karmuzzaman, Chairman of BTMC, on behalf of their respective organizations. During the event, Mr. Salman Obaidul Karim expressed his sincere gratitude to the Honorable Prime Minister for promoting the PPP model as a global role model for development. Construction of this landmark project will begin soon after the land is formally handed over by BTMC, with production expected to commence within two years.
